CLASS TITLE:
Outdoor Recreation LeaderDESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To organize, supervise, and participate in suitable and safe camp and outdoor activities for children registered in the summer outdoor program at the Walden West Center of the 老澳门开奖结果; to lead, train, and direct the work of Outdoor Recreation Assistant I and II incumbents; and to perform a variety of related duties in the maintenance of effective recreational activities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class serves as a lead to incumbents in the lower classes and is responsible for organizing suitable and safe camp and outdoor activities while instilling an appreciation for the environment for children registered in summer outdoor programs. The Outdoor Recreation Leader differs from the lower classes of Outdoor Recreation Assistant I and II in that the latter classes function in a support capacity to incumbents of this class. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL AND TYPICAL DUTIES
- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Organizes suitable and safe camp and outdoor activities for children and youth groups registered in the summer outdoor program at the Walden West Center
Provides instruction in camp rules and preserves order and discipline among children
Prepares materials for and leads youth activities in group building, hiking, crafts, archery, and campfire program
Assists in organizing and conducting special events; maintains camp supplies and equipment; ensures activity materials, camp and swimming equipment are readily available
Supervises children throughout their stay with the program including during unpacking and packaging baggage and overnight program activities; and attends to problems occurring during sleeping hours
Maintains communication with the camp director relating children in need of special attention, such as medication, physical problems, and behavior
Attends and participates in staff development and other meetings
Ensures for the provision of safety checks on facilities, campgrounds, and during camp activities; provides minor first aid as needed
Transports or coordinates the transportation of program children, parents, and persons with disabilities
Leads, directs, and trains Outdoor Recreation Assistants I and II incumbents
Maintains records, prepares reports, uses office equipment, and performs clerical support duties relating to attendance, registration, and filing
Performs other related duties.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Possession of:
A valid California class C driver锟絪 license
First Aid and CPR Certification
Knowledge of:
Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation
Child guidance practices and principles for learning
Camp and outdoor equipment, activities, and materials
First aid for minor injuries
Record-keeping methods and techniques
Applicable laws, statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions in an independent manner
Enforce safety and disciplinary rules
Conduct a variety of outdoor and recreation activities
Maintain routine records and prepare reports
Organize, conduct, adapt and evaluate outdoor, recreation, and camp activities
Effectively supervise children in a variety of situations
Recognize, analyze, and appropriately respond to a variety of situations
Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of assigned duties.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Generally, any combination of training and experience that could provide required knowledge and abilities is considered as qualifying. A typical method of demonstrating these qualifications is three years of experience in the natural sciences, environmental education, summer day camp programs or a related field.
