​â¶Ä‹â€‹â¶Ä‹SAN JOSE, CA – On Wednesday, February 6, the Santa Clara County Board of Education signed a resolution formally recognizing February as National African American History Month. ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û (ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û) will host a variety of activities throughout the month to mark the observance.
By signing this resolution both the County Board of Education and ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û recognize the courageous fight for the rights, liberties, and freedoms for African Americans and all Americans and encourages educators, students, and families to learn about the heritage and achievements of African Americans.
To honor the month, the ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û will highlight positive contributions of African Americans throughout history via social media, and host lectures on a variety of topics including Black Hair & Beauty, Black in Education and a conversation on the meaning of black history month featuring Vice Mayor Chappie Jones, Fire Chief Curtis Jacobson, and Milan Balinton, Executive Director of the African American Community Service Agency.

About the ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û
Working collaboratively with school and community partners, the ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û (ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û) is a regional service agency that provides instructional, business, and technology services to the 31 school districts of Santa Clara County. The County Office of Education directly serves students through special education programs, alternative schools, Head Start and State Preschool programs, migrant education, and Opportunity Youth Academy. The ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û also provides academic and fiscal oversight and monitoring to districts in addition to the 22 Santa Clara County Board of Education authorized charter schools.​
