â¶Ä‹SAN JOSE, CA – In the fourth episode of “Why I Teach," State Teacher of the Year Sean Bui of Fremont Union High School District states, “I teach so that all students believe that they belong." As an English Language Development teacher, he works with English Language Learners. Many of his students feel displaced; however as their teacher, he wants every student to feel that they belong in his classroom.
In this episode, we learn that many teachers are driven by their passion to teach, their desire to create safe environments, and their commitment to building a sense of belonging for each of their students. Laraine Ignacio, Teacher of the Year for Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District, went into teaching to share the power that education holds from her perspective as a second generation immigrant. Lauren Ball of Mountain View Whisman School District, a Special Education teacher, wants to create a safe and happy space for her students and watching each students' progress.
This series of public service announcements (PSA) highlights Santa Clara County Teachers of the Year sharing why they have chosen their profession.
The PSAs are part of a larger initiative to recruit and inspire the next generation of great teachers. The ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û is helping districts throughout the county recruit teaching candidates at the upcoming Teacher Recruitment Fair. This one-day event held at the ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û on Saturday, March 28, is an opportunity for those seeking a teaching position to meet with hiring representatives from local school districts and charter schools; advance registration is recommended.
