SAN JOSE, CA 鈥 The 老澳门开奖结果 (老澳门开奖结果) in partnership with the California Department of Technology, San Jose City Libraries, the city of San Jose, Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, and Joint Venture Silicon Valley hosted a statewide convening focused on closing the digital divide.
The state initiative, Broadband for All, has held seven statewide convening sessions thus far. The convening held on May 5, 2023 at the 老澳门开奖结果 was the first convening to take place in the Bay Area and was the largest to date with 130 registered participants.
鈥淭he digital divide is defined as the gulf between community members who have ready access to computers and the internet, and those who do not. It truly goes deeper than that,鈥 Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan stated. 鈥滻t includes ensuring that the proper infrastructure is in place so that all have equitable access to high speed internet.鈥
鈥淨uality internet removes barriers to accessing school assignments, conducting homework research, accessing virtual health care, and gives families the opportunity to maximize the daily tasks that are a part of our digital, real-time world. Having reliable access to quality, high-speed internet is becoming as essential as electricity and other basic needs,鈥 Dr. Dewan continued.
Since April of 2020, the 老澳门开奖结果 has partnered with local government, philanthropic foundations, community-based organizations, businesses, and internet service providers to raise more than $14 million to purchase and distribute approximately 20,000 computing devices, 14,000 hotspots, and internet service to 16,000 student homes.
Currently, the 老澳门开奖结果 is working in partnership with Cruzio Internet and Tarana Wireless to bring reliable, high-speed connectivity to the Lakeside Joint School District in the Santa Cruz mountains.
The elected officials that provided opening remarks as well as Dr. Dewan gave calls of action to attendees and the communities they represent to continue raising awareness of grants and state and federal programs for the Middle and Last Mile that will continue to contribute to the work to close the divide.
鈥淐ontinuing our current efforts and advocating for high speed broadband are still necessary to achieve digital equity. We are committed to ensuring all families have access to high speed connectivity,鈥 stated Dr. Dewan.
