SAN JOSE, CA – After three hours of competition, a sixth-grade student, Rishik Gandhasri of Silver Oak Elementary emerged victoriously and took the top position in the third annual Santa Clara County Spelling Bee.
The winning word was "multilingual."
The Spelling Bee began with 24 of Santa Clara County's exceptional spellers from public, private, and charter schools in grades four through six, and ended with two winners and two alternates.
- Fourth Place - Vayun Krishna; Challenger School – Middlefield; 5th Grade
- Third Place - Ayetra Sarkar; Carolyn Clark Elementary; 5th Grade
- Second Place - Aziza Mohammed; Granada Islamic School; 6th Grade
- First Place - Rishik Gandhasri; Silver Oak Elementary; 6th Grade
Both Mohammed and Gandhasri will advance to the state competition in San Joaquin County on Saturday, May 12. Sarkar and Krishna will serve as alternates if the two winners are unable to attend.

The ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û (ÀϰÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û) is a regional service agency that provides instructional and business services to the 31 school districts of Santa Clara County.
