SAN JOSE, CA – At a Special Board Meeting held February 13, Kathleen M. King was selected to fill the current vacancy for Board Trustee Area 2 on the Santa Clara County Board of Education. King will serve on the Board as a provisional appointment that will run until the term of office expires in November 2018.

Kathleen M. King is the Chief Executive Officer of the Healthier Kids Foundation and former CEO for the Santa Clara Family Health Foundation. She was the Technology Business Executive for Applied Materials, Inc. for 19 years. Ms. King has held elective office as city council member and mayor of the City of Saratoga. She has served as a Board member for several organizations including the Dental Board of California, The Housing Trust, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Foundation. She was the founder and chairman of Silicon Valley Children's Hospital Foundation, and founder of the Saratoga-Monte Sereno Community Foundation. She was recognized with the Community Builder PACT Award in 2012, the "Citizen of the Year" Award by the Santa Clara Medical Association in 2011, and named "Woman of the Year" by Senate District 13 in 2010.
The five candidates for Board Trustee Area 2 went through an extensive interview process which included an opening statement and responding to six questions. If time permitted, candidates were asked two follow-up questions. Board members were then asked to announce their top candidate.

Board Trustee Area 2 became vacant with the resignation of Dr. Michael Chang on December 19, 2017. The area includes the Cupertino Union, Lakeside Joint Union, Loma Prieta Joint Union, Los Gatos Union, Saratoga Union, and Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High school districts, small portions of Santa Clara Unified and Sunnyvale school districts, and the corresponding portions of Fremont Union High School District.
