鈥婼AN JOSE, CA 鈥� Nine hundred student-athletes from across the Bay Area will gather at West Valley College for the 40th annual Kiwanis Special Games on Friday, May 18.
Students from the 老澳门开奖结果 (老澳门开奖结果) Special Education programs will join other student competitors in an all-inclusive event that allows students to compete at his or her own pace.
The event will begin with a Parade of Athletes at 9:15 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony featuring West Valley College President, Bradley Davis and the Mayor of the City of Saratoga. Athletes will compete in 18 games including running, softball toss, Frisbee throw, bean bag drop, and other events tailored to fit a wide range of abilities.

"I love the Special Games," says Kellie Pena, a paraeducator in the medically fragile program at Gateway School. "Getting our students outdoors in the big crowds, where kids are seeing their peers, meeting old friends, and making new ones, it is exhausting by the end of the day, and so worth it."
"This annual event is a great opportunity for our students to compete and succeed in an athletic competition which builds self-esteem and to build social ties and make friends. For many of our students, this is the best day of the year," says County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mary Ann Dewan.
